Harry A. â??Budâ?쳌 Northup Jr., 83, lifelong resident of Stonington, passed away at home on Sunday, April 22, 2012. Born in Westerly, RI he was the eldest son of the late Harry A. Northup Sr. and Rose (Dâ??Amico) Northup. Bud attended local schools and was a graduate of Stonington High School class of 1946. After high school, he briefly worked for Atwood Machine Co. before he enlisted with the U.S. Army 11th Airborne Div. serving during the Korean War. Harry was employed with Electric Boat as a Loftsman for forty-three years up until his retirement in 1996. During his years at the shipyard, Bud was asked to put the body plan for the Trident Submarine on the Mould Loft floor in its full size. That was definitely a high point of his employment there. He enjoyed traveling with his friends on vacations, boating, fishing and especially gardening where he loved tending to his many daffodils around his home, he also took great pride in his property. Bud also volunteered at the Pequotsepsos Nature Center and the Mystic Seaport and was a longtime member of the United Church of Stonington. Bud leaves a brother, Edwin Northup of Stonington; and many cousins and good friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Curtis Northup and his best friends, Elsie & Bob Bowman and Bernice & Leslie Tefft. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5-8 pm at the Mystic Funeral Home Route 1 Mystic. A service will be held Thursday, April 26th at 11:00 am at the United Church of Stonington 67 Main St. Stonington. Full military honors will follow after the service at the church. Burial will be private at Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date.
